I've recently awakened to an idea: "Security vs Ambition is a matter of values"
The following example is a true story of how personal values relate to Security & Ambition. We'll substitute the real names with "Sally" & "Jacky":
Sally worked in a kitchen of a restaurant washing dishes. She worked very hard, but washing dishes did not generate much financial income.
Her daughter, Jacky, was changing careers and temporarily without a job. Jacky had 16 years of experience in the Hospitality industry, and she was very good at what she did. The jobs which Jacky has done have generated much more income than washing dishes does.
Because Jacky was transitioning between careers, Sally suggested that Jacky should come and work in the kitchen along side her.
Now, please don't misunderstand me; there is nothing wrong with washing dishes in a kitchen (aside from the fact that it's very hard physical work!), but here is some food for thought:
- Knowing that Jacky had 16 years of experience in the Hospitality industry, why did Sally offer her a job in a kitchen washing dishes?
- Was it her belief that Jacky was incapable of finding a job despite her 16 years of experience?
- Was Sally so devoid of ambition that she didn't even consider encouraging her towards a 'better' job?
- Was Sally simply thinking in preservation mode, and wanting Jacky to just have the nearest job that she could find?
- What was the sponsoring thought: security or ambition?
I believe that it's very important to know why we create our lives the way that we do. Once we've identified the reason for doing something, then we can be free to turn our values & beliefs around so that we can create the life that we want, rather than the life that we currently have.
